Ian & Claire's Adventure
After a coach ride back up to Keri Keri we picked up Delia and headed straight South for the long journey to Palmerston North.
The first night we ended up camping wild as we couldnt find the campsite on the map (just south of Auckland). We eneded up in a ditch under some trees hoping a farmer wouldnt scare the hell out of us in the morning.
We set off as soon as we woke up and made our way to the Waitomo caves to see the glow worms. It is a huge limestone cave with lots of stalagmites and stalagtites. Then you go into a boat and slowly move through a cave on a river and look up to see thousands of glow worms on the ceiling, its really nice.
We then headed south again to the Tongariri National park and stayed at a place called Whakapapa which is a ski village. The weather was horrible and we couldnt see much, it was really cold, so we cooked inside the van and had an early night. The next morning we woke to a fabulous view of huge snow capped mountains and the ski slopes and a chateaux (oddly enough). We went for a walk up the hill to see the views as the weather was better, then drove up to take a look at the skiiers.
We then set off as we were due to be at palmerston at 5pm to meet the rest of the rellies.
