Hunters On The Move 2013
A bit delayed but here it is.
We arrived in Cradoc to stay on Nev and Nickys farm after spending one night at Gordon not far from here.
It was really good to see them and boy they have done so much with their farm since we were here just over 3 years ago. It looks fantastic. Nev had the next couple of days off so Al and Nev set to work mulching, cutting wood and erecting electric fences. They got a lot done and Allen is really enjoying the farm work. Nicky and Neville have 9 acres in the Huon Valley in a magic spot called Cradoc. They have a dam and a river/stream running through their property. The outside of the house looks a bit ordinary but inside they have worked their magic and it looks fantastic.
The paddocks are all nicely fenced and hold, two horses, two huge cows, two big pat pigs, I dont know how many sheep, lots of chooks, a couple of ducks and a goose, and of course the three Sharpei dogs. The dogs all got a toy for Christmas and they we so funny taking it as it was unwrapped. The pig sits when instructed! The horses know their names and respond accordingly, as do the two cows. The chickens have a great coop and run but are let out during the day to free range the whole place. Two of the hens have little chicks following them everywhere.
Nicky has a huge garden that she calls "Nicky's Place" that is gorgeous. It is lovely green grass with boxed areas containing all sorts of things. She has strawberries, blueberries, rasberries, apples, plums, tomatoes, pumpkin, potatoes, cucumbers, broad beans and more that I cant think of right now. It is surrounded by trees - some of them fruit - and rose bushes. Some of the photos where you can see shade cloth were taken out there on Boxing Day.
We have been here a week now and feel quite at home. Looking forward to the next couple of weeks.
January and the weather here is cold and wet. What happened to summer. Allen was mowing the lawn in the rain this morning! We leave the farm on Tuesday morning and head to Devonport for the Ferry on Thursday morning.
