Heading toward Longreach, we arrived at Barcaldine (pronounced Bar-cauld-in). We found ourselves a weir as usual and camped under the trees near the water. After our week at the Theresa Creek Dam being fed redclaw and barramundi we experienced a totally new camp area. Sapphire is in the gemfields of Queensland, it is close to Rubyvale and both places have Sapphires to be found. These towns are real shanty towns with nothing permanent. What a lovely place this is! We were able to camp on high ground that was lovely grass near a tree overlooking the beautiful Theresa Creek Dam. The dam is used for water skiing and they have ski club rooms on site. On the weekends and school holidays it is packed with families as the place is perfect for them, set out with loads of grassy areas, playgound, kiosk and beach area. For quite awhile now we have been heading toward Emerald! Whenever anyone asked us where we were headed it was 'Emerald', well we finally got here! The inland areas of outback Queensland have provided us with many lovely camp areas, all free! We have followed rivers, dams and weirs for a while now. We still have many more to go. Currently we are at a weir south west of Rockhampton toward Emerald. We intend to head to Emerald but are detouring to check out these wonderful waterways in this area.
