After driving about 450kms from Alice Springs, we arrive at the Yalara Resort Campground. It is a large campground with a lovely pool. Yalara was built to accomodate tourist coming to visit the rock. It has a supermarket and a few shops and a coffee shop run by Indigenous students in training for the hospitality industry. As it was Allens birthday, we had coffee and cake there.
The rock is unbelievable, absolutely fantastic, gobsmakingly beautiful. No photos do it justice. We spent time in the cultural centre learning the significance of the area and after spending time driving around the rock we went back to camp for a swim in the pool. That was lovely as it was so hot. Then we went for our coffee and cake and then we saw an Indigenous dance display so went to check it out.....and ended up with Allen dancing on stage with them lol. All in all, he had a great birthday.
We then went to the sunset viewing of the rock which is attended by lots of people and it was awesome. Then off home for dinner and bed. In the morning we got up early to go to to sunrise viewing which was ok but I wouldnt necessarily say it was a must.

Time to tackle The Olgas. Off we go 50km away to another magnificent sight. They rock cluster here is very impressive and we did a walk to a gorge - it was a very hot day and the walk was over rocks etc and it was not easy. When we got there - well what can I say - it was not worth the trouble. Hardly any water in the gorge and not much of one at all. Anyway we loved the view.
