After driving into Darwin and finding no joy from the caravan parks there because we have a dog, and being told we cannot enter a shire reserve where they have camping, because we have a van with a pop top roof!!!! We felt very unwelcome and decided to leave and forget about Darwin. We drove to Adelaide River and booked into the caravan park behind the pub and service station and Oh what a joy!!! Friendly staff, lots of green grass, shady trees, a lovely pool....such a relief! We loved it so much that we stayed two nights.
Today we visited the War Cemetry and Memorial gardens. Wow....they have done a wonderful job looking after this place. Adelaide River was a base for a lot of defense personal, especially RAAF during WWII. They had a visitors centre there with a video playing showing the war in the area. Amazing. We took heaps of photos as it was so picturesque and we were so touched. I will upload them shortly. There is such a lot of history in this area.
We are so glad we didnt spend time in Darwin and so glad we stayed here for two days. What a gorgeous spot. A pub, a bistro, a service station, a caravan park, and a pool all in the one place. Wonderful!!
