Today was our only full day in Kuala Lumpur and we were prepared to make the most of it. A list of things to visit was constructed and the alarm was set at 8.30 in order to allow us to get the most out of our day. However, when we woke up at 11.30... that's right 11.30... it meant that things didn't quite work out as planned.
In all fairness, we'd not really slept the night before and had been travelling for rather a long time, so we were allowed a little bit of extra naptime than usual. Added to the fact that our room has no window, therefore no natural light, we do have a small excuse for having a little lie-in. What it did mean, was that when we strode out to walk to the Petronas Towers, we were walking in the midday sun. No burns today, but you could have wrung out Howie's pants like a flannel.
After lunch I had a gelato. This is worth writing about because it was the first iced treat of the trip and to be quite honest it was lip-smackingly delicious. We then made a bee-line for the other huge shopping centres - BB Plaza and Songwein - so that Howie could rub his little hands in glee over all of the fancy cameras and swish electronical stuff. One of the plazas was literally a five-floor gadget bananza, and although this thrilled the Irish one, I opted to sit on a bench and write some postcards.
We had a spot of dinner at a Japanese place and then headed over to Trader's Hotel near the KLCC. On the 33rd floor is the Skybar, which has a pool running through it and an amazing view of the Petronas Towers and Kuala Lumpur skyline. It was a very swanky establishment with swanky prices to match the swanky drinks, but the views were astounding; definately better to go up to the Skybar and see the Petronas Towers than go up the towers and see everything else. Seeing as we are less than swanky, we only stayed for one drink and then hopped back to Chinatown ready to pack our bags for tomorrow's adventure to Langkawi. As nice as Kuala Lumpur is - with very clean and efficiant public transport, incidentally - we're really looking forward to getting out of the city and onto the beach.
