We went to Annie's on our first evening in Alice Springs. With our tour guide we could get a meal for $5 but the meals were very small. We stayed there for a long time as it is one of the only bars in the town. Gemma, Carla and I met 4 locals. Carla was very happy because 3 of them were firemen and were actually her height. The other was a policeman and told us lots of stories about where not to go in the area.
The next morning I met the policeman and went for a hike up a hill and then to Anzac hill where there is a great view of the whole town. I then went to meet Carla and Gemma in town. We did a bit of shopping and Gemma decided she wanted to go to the reptile house. Carla didn't want to go because she doesn't like reptiles so I went with Gemma. The reptile house was good, they had a lot of snakes and lizards and one 3.5m saltwater croc in the back garden. There was a Goanna called Freddy who was just wondering around the place and could be touched. After being there half an hour they did a talk about a few of the animals and how to avoid and give first aid to snake bites. We got to hold a Blue Tongued lizard, a Bearded Dragon and an Olive Python. Gemma didn't want to hold any so she just took photos of me holding them.
That night we went out again and met the same guys, we went to a place called Bojangles, which is the only club in the town. The next day Gemma went to the airport very early in the morning. I met Carla later on and we then met some other Dutch guys we had seen around and had lunch with them, which they cooked. We chilled out for the rest of the day until Carla had to call her parents so I went with one of the Dutch guys to Anzac hill to see the sunset.
We had to wake up very early the next morning to get on our next tour bus. Our new tour guide, Ruth, was very sarcastic, which made the whole trip very funny. About an hour into the trip we stopped at the Tropic of Capricorn and all took photos. We then stopped at the Barrow Creek Pub which had stuff that people had left behind from all different countries hanging everywhere from the walls. The owner asked us all where we were from and pointed out lots of stuff that had come from that country, including money, football shirts, underwear and badges. Our next stop was the Devils Marbles. Here we could climb on all the rocks and take funny photos. I got right to the top of a big mound and behind it there was just a big flat slab of rock so I could run and meet people on the other side of the path. On the way to the campsite we stopped at a dam. 3 of us went for a swim here and there was a platform in the middle to jump off. After that we went to our camp at Tennent Creek.
The next day we visited Daly Waters where there was the most remote traffic light and the Daly Waters pub which is similar to Barrow Creek Pub. A few of us went for a quick swim in the pool at the pub after lunch and then we continued in the bus to Mataranka. Here we had about an hour to soak in the thermal springs. Our campsite that night was near Katherine Gorge.
The last day of the tour we went to Katherine Gorge and did a cruise down 2 of the gorges. Apparently people thought they saw a crocodile but most of us think it was just a log. We went back to camp for lunch and then went to some more thermal springs. On the way we stopped at the Stuart Tree where there are initials carved into the tree and we also went round the first airport in the area. Afterwards we continued on to Darwin. Our accomodation for the night is at the Cav and tomorrow I go to Kakadu for 2 days.
