Holly's and Helly's BIG adventure!!
Well, here we are in Venice, the city of many canals and lots of water! The journey here was uneventful and quite comfortable, most of the trains between the main Italian cities seem to be Eurostar, so we can reserve seats and they aren't crowded and hot! The railway station actually looks right out onto a canal which is really surreal, you literally walk out of the station and you are in the centre of Venice. Straight after getting off the train we decided to be organised and arrange our train travel to Barcelona, the supplement was HUGE.....140 euros but its the only way to get there so we had no choice but to pay it, such is life!
The hostel is another story entirely, after thinking it would be a nice easy journey there on the shuttle bus, we set off for the bus station and found the crowd of traveller like people, some with backpacks as large as ours and waited for the bus. It arrived and we set our bags in the luggage compartment at the bottom and went to get on the bus, to be told that it was full and the next one would be along in an hour.....great! Neither Helen or I was very impressed, luckly we found a couple from New Zealand who had also be rudely turned away from the bus who managed to get us all to the campsite we are staying at. Unlike Rome, which was actually quite nice, here in Venice we are actually in the middle of nowhere and the facilities seem to always be breaking down, but it's cheap so here we are staying.
Going to have a wander around Venice tomorrow, although it is so hot here, far hotter than anywhere else so for part of the day you actually can't do anything! But i think the city is small enough that we will be able to see a lot in our time here. Until the next installation! xx
