Holly's and Helly's BIG adventure!!
Well, here we are in Bella Italia, after a somewhat traumatising journey from our tranquil island in Greece! After 2 days of travelling on bus, train and boat we finally arrived in Rome to find that Helen and I had been put in seperate rooms, something neither of us were impressed with at all! But it is all sorted now, and to put the icing on the cake, instead of being moved to a 2 bed diddy bungalow, Helen and I are now the proud occupants of a 6 bed chalet, complete with air conditioning, real kitchen and 2 ensuite bathrooms! Marvellous!
Today after being reunited, we set off for the sightseeing tour buses, which we have both decided are an amazing way to see a city for the first time and get your bearings, after an interesting and very intellectual tour, we got off at the Colosseum and paid the entrance fee (take your passport if you want a discount, apparently international student cards are not acceptable forms of id!). It was actually quite amazing, and very surreal thinking that we were actually in Rome wandering around the Colosseum! The only downside........it is so hot, and walking sometimes requires too much energy!
After a restful night in our CHALET!!!!! we are heading off for the Vatican city tomorrow to roast in some queues and be amazed by the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica, i'm really really looking forward to it. Rome is somewhere i think you would either love or hate, and i have fallen in love! A trip back at a cooler time of year is definatly on the cards!
