Terrible night's sleep, really is beginning to annoy me, and tire me out. Was up and about before Starbucks was even open so had to occupy myself until I could get my caffeine fix.
I packed up my bike, still have the trailer but have a feeling it won't last much longer. As usual, getting out of the city and back onto the bike trail proved to be tricky. So many bike route signs everywhere that you just don't know which one to follow and of course I chose the wrong one. Once on the right track the route took me through the Prater in Vienna, a beautiful park in the northern part of the city where everyone goes to do sport.
Just along the banks of the Danube I was let in for a treat. A nudist area of the river, bums, boobs, balls and willies everywhere. Not a nice sight, one man crossed in front of me to go to his car and I wondered why on earth he would want to show 'that' off in public.
The route then left the river and took me inland through the Lobau National Park and it was here I stayed until I reaching Hainburg, just before the border. Another very hot day but hoped to be in Slovakia soon.
Once over the border the quality of the route worsened. I could see Bratislava away up on a hill, dammit. The wind had picked up and the clouds were moving in so I needed to get a move on. I kinda knew which direction I had to go in but to get there I had to go through old part of town. After what seemed like an eternity I managed to find my way to my place of rest. I'm now in a country where I don't speak a word of the language so communicating is a challenge but ya get there in the end.
Having showered I headed out to check out the capital. There really are very run down areas but the historic tourist area was beautiful. Many old buildings some desperately in need of a fix. Now I had the task of finding somewhere to eat. After walking around a while I settled on a place that had dumplings a in sheep's cheese sauce served with spicy sausage. It was delicious as was the Radler that I drank with it. To finish off I had to have some ice cream. At 60c a scoop you just can't pass up an opportunity like that so with a two scoop ice cream I wandered around looking at the many street sculptures there are.
Tired and hot I made my way back to my bed and indulged in some English TV, spoilt. Will explore more areas of Bratislava tomorrow as I am having ANother day off here.

Liz Next time you need to decide which way to go, go against your gut instinct - you seem to have a knack of picking the wrong path so maybe this method would work :)
Suzanne I'm wondering if the excitement of the road trip wakes you... seems the night before a "day off" on this "holiday" you sleep well... hmmm. Got inspired last night and made a goulash of my own! Food sounds grand and just what you need after a day of pedaling... Yeah!
