Walker's Travels in Scandinavia 2017 and others
Day 26 Sun 5 Jun 16, Adelaide to Port Augusta 306 km, rain 7 to 18 deg. Woke to the sound of raindrops on the roof so glad we packed away the awning etc last night. A bit sad this morning to be leaving as we really enjoyed our stay in Adelaide and only scratched the surface of things to do and see. Good excuse to come back again. Headed north on highway 1 with very little traffic (it is Sunday after all), with wind and drizzle all the way. Decided to stop at Snowtown which is off the highway for mornos. Glad we did as it is an interesting little town complete with the "Big Blade". This is a display blade from a wind turbine presented to the town by the company that installed a wind farm (47 turbines) nearby. We couldn't see it for the clouds and rain. There are also some lovely old buildings in the town. Pulled into Port Augusta at 12:35pm just as there was a break in the drizzle. Didn't set up too much as we're only staying one night. A nice salad lunch and then a walk to the city centre. There was a good range of shops, the normal suspects, and some interesting history from when this place was a real Port. PA is currently in the process of not only decommissioning but completely dismantling their only power-house. A big employer in the area so they feel its closure. Picked up a couple of things at Woolies and then walked home. 6.5km return. A nice home-cooked dinner of pork/salmon and veggies capped off another grey-nomadic day.
