29/08/2011 Day 20. Swiss National Park.
Set off this morning from Slovenia, heading towards Switzerland. Nick started the drive and we swapped in Austria near Innsbruck. I drove over the border into Switzerland and went down some crazy mountainside roads into Switzerland. Thin roads made me a bit twitchy at some points, we arrived safely though at the campsite around 1.30. The sun was out and it looked great, we are in a valley between a few mountains. We heard a river down by the campsite, we got the swim shorts on and headed down. Only me, Aaron and Sam intended to get in. The river was running pretty quick and had quite a current on it. The water was bright blue it was so inviting. Sam dived straight in and told us about the conditions, quite cold. I stuck my feet in and waded in, it was very cold indeed! Sam crossed the river slowly so I thought, ooo I wonder what it's like over there. The current was really strong I was scared it might have swept me away, it wasn't too deep though, only waist depth at the deepest. There were a lot of slippery rocks in the floor, quite treacherous. Aaron though, girled out and just stood in the middle of the river saying he was cold! Some Germans bike past and shouted "is it cold?!" with there fingers indicating a small willy at him, it was great! After we got over we had what we called, the Swiss games. We had shot put, discus an skimming competitions. Great time :). We walked then into town and went to the tourist information to ask about getting up into the mountains for a walk tomorrow, we got a nice map and info about buses. Later we went to a supermarket and bought some Swiss food (exciting I know!). We had a discussion about what to do tomorrow, about getting up to the mountains and be ready for the drive to Venice the next day. We decided to drive up and through the mountains after our jaunt and head to a campsite near the Swiss-Italian border. Then we can chill out for the evening and set off for Venice in the morning. Sat in with some beers playing cards and again, ending the night with some Karl Pilkington. I need to see idiot abroad. Update tomorrow with the mountain walk and new campsite :)
