19/08/2011 Day 10. Foothills of the Tatra Mountains, Slovakia.
Set off at 8 this morning with me starting the drive. I had two albums in mind to listen to. I listened to "the swell season" by Glen hansard and "the black album" by Metallica. Awesome soundtrack. I drove until we left Poland and entered Slovakia. I went and bought the car tax sticker we needed and Dave took over. Slovakia has awesome scenery. The mountains came into view and it was amazing to see. Bright sunshine all day on the drive. Dave had to slam on at one point to avoid a head on collision with a car who was trying to overtake another. We arrived at the campsite and Aaron bought a map to plan a walk for us. We had one and it should have been around 2-3 hours. We set off and walked around a slum looking town but came to a village and they mmust have been having a party, a folk band were playing, it was really nice. We got into the hills and again, breathtaking to look at. We got a tad lost and didn't really know which roads to take because the map wasn't very detailed. We eventually got back 2 and a half hours later and 5.75 miles. We then went to stick our feet in the river running past, wow it was cold! Feet went numb after a minute or so. We headed to the restaurant on site and got some food. I got some potato pancake things with some cheese, onions and bacon. Absolutely gorgeous. With a pint of the local beer it cost me... 4.80€!!! bargains!!! We retired back to the camper after they all had a pudding, greedy sods, and started to build a fire. An hour and a half later we were still trying to get one going but sam borrowed a hatchet from a fellow camper so we eventually managed. Now it's 9pm an were sat around said fire having a beer. What a day, I'd definately come back to Slovakia, for both the scenery and the prices :) Budapest tomorrow so setting off at 8. The demolition boys Dave and Sam E are on the wheel. I've gave nicknames to the others too, Rev the nuts off it Nick and Aaron stop n start.
Out!
