We're certified open water divers! So very proud of Amy for completing it as she was struggling to get to grips with it all even though she was doing really well throughout and had a bit of a freak out over breakfast. She's over the moon she stuck with it, think I'll need to find a new dive buddy though for future dives!
We were in the classroom to begin with this morning, learning calculations mostly, then had our final exam. Headed out with the other divers to shark rock and aeow leuk but it was a lot choppier today after so very heavy monsoon rain this morning so by the time we got there I was feeling quite green! Getting very heavy scuba gear on on a rocking and rolling boat and doing buddy checks etc was not fun in these conditions! We had to jump in backwards this time and with the boat leaping up and down this was quite a struggle, I was shaking on the edge. I was pleased to be off the boat though! We did a skill which involved going down 5 m and surfacing as if you'd run out of air, managed this ok and started to feel much better once under the waves! It was very different to yesterday, we saw a lot of different fish and corals (alas no whale shark), held a sea urchin and played with a very territorial brown fish I can't remember the name of it but he was moving in and out of my finger.
So the whale shark is still up there on my bucket list along with the turtle and reef shark but this just means I'll have to come back at some point :D.
Tomorrow I plan to walk around to the next bay- 'shark bay' here it's quite likely you can snorkel over reef sharks which I think is pretty cool, Amy's going to come for the walk but isn't sure about snorkelling with sharks!
