After a nice relaxed day at the Novotel catching up up on some sleep, enjoying a lovely Massaman curry and a refreshing dip in the rooftop pool we headed for the city and found the Nasa Vegas hotel.
Shopped out for sure! Yesterday, we had a traditional spicy rice/noodle Thai buffet breakfast with some eggs and bacon on the side before heading across the road to the monorail station. Navigated this fairly easily and headed into Central Siam square. Walked straight off the train and into a very posh extravagant shopping mall-Siam Centre. Spent a couple of hours here just browsing and grabbed a coffee and cake and the cutest little coffee shop- mr jones' orphanage, the cakes were amazing and quite a lot cheaper than I expected.
We left in search of the NBK which we'd read was a bit more of a budget mall, got side tracked on the way by the square and technology gateway a geeky IT mall. After walking through a small street market we found NBK, it was a good mall with bargains to be had! Bought a few things but could have bought a lot more!
We decided to extend our stay in Bangkok by one more night so today we headed back out on the train, first stop was to try and find a post office! We managed this process fairly easily with a bit of help from the staff- hope it gets home!! We then moved on to Ko San Road as we'd heard this was backpackers central, this involved a few changes and a boat across the river. It was a busy market street, wasn't too impressed by it as it was crowded and dirty but glad we went to explore it, it was a good day. From there we went to see what the hype was about at a night market in Soel Daeng, someone had said this was the red light district so we were a little apprehensive but it turned out to be a good find with lots of other travellers about, some bargains and some yummy street food nibbles and a chocolate and banana crepe for tea :). Came back to the hotel, paid for wifi and spent quite some time organising next bit of our trip, hopefully heading up to Chiang Mai tomorrow if we can get a train ticket!
