We arrived late yesterday to quite a shock- 10 degrees!! It was freezing and we have very few cold clothes with us! The night before we were too hot to sleep under and sheet with aircon and flans blaring, last night we had hoodies socks and blankets with a thick duvet! Our friends, Steph and Jay, who we met in Africa have kindly invited us to stay with them here which is so good! This morning we got up with Steph for work and jumped on the train with her into the city while she marked places we should go and scribbled on a map for us. We spent the whole day until about 6pm wondering the streets of Melbourne. I really like it, they have busy streets with trams that roll over hill, arty graffiti filled back alleys, chocolate shops, department stores, small lanes packed with coffee shops and cafés and big skyline highrise building. Steph gave us a quick tour of the block around her work and showed us a great little place to grab a bagel and coffee. It was the tastiest bagel! Melbourne is known for its food, coffee, sport and artsy vibe, it's really cool and reminded us a little of Brighton. After breakfast we mooched and shopped found a Lindt chocolate cafe we will be back to, I bought some much needed jeans and hoody, an Aussie simand we grabbed some groceries for tea, we have a kitchen for the first time!! Steph had invited us to her work christmas party! So we grabbed a train back and got ready from our limited wardrobe options and headed back out into the cold. The party was so good and we were even offered the use of the free bar! It was in their old offices right by the river but it was a bit of a construction site so it was quite quirky but well set up. We had some wine, day around fires and had a boogie until 2.30am. Came home and had warmed up apple crumble with Icecream at 3am before heading to bed and snuggling up under the blankets!
