We spent 5 nights on nacula at blue lagoon resort. The further we got away from the main island the more pristine and turquoise the water got, I know it's cliche but it was absolute paradise!
A lot of the days were spent on the crystal clear beach, the water was so clear I've never seen anything like it! The coral started just off the shore so snorkelling was very good! We saw Gill from the dentists office in finding nemo. Lots of fish around though, including one big trigger fish.
A big highlight of my stay was I was able to do my shark dive! They offered it at the resort, we went out on the boat and I did get quite sea sick as he flew over the waves but after plunging backwards off the side of the boat with my gear on I was good to go. I was only nervous at this point as they'd thrown fish guts in as food before this as food so I had images of lots of man eating sharks circling bellow us. It was alright though there was a bit of a fish frenzy and a few sharks far beneath us. We descended down 25 meters and took our positions carefully lying on the reef. There were a mass of fish, reef sharks and a good handful of big trigger fish, luckily more interested in the feeding than us down there. Lemon sharks came, fed and milled around then the big boys arrived... 3 or 4 4-5meter bull sharks! That's a big shark! I was surprisingly calm considering they're known to be aggressive and attack humans but they just seemed so calm and majestic and thankfully again not interested in us at all, I just looked on in awe. They are amazing creatures I could have stayed at watched for hours. The dive masters were feeding them with fish heads on sticks and we got a great view as a bull grabbed on and came towards us as it chomped it up with its biiig jaw and teeth! We watched from 2 spots, the second we were stood up on the reef behind a rope, too soon we were heading back up to the boat but what an amazing experience!!
The food here was so good, every morning we had a buffet breakfast, for lunch there was a great choice, the risotto was very tasty! Every night they'd be a different theme to the food and we'd have different entertainment. For food we had BBQ buffet, traditional Fiji food cooked in a firepit, a set 3 course menu of a fish dish and curry night. For entertainment we had a bonfire night, party night which involved games like limbo, movie night which was a screen under the stars, and relaxation night. We also had Fijian choirs and dance groups which was really cool to watch and be involved with.
Unfortunately towards the end of our time I came down with tonsilitis which isn't what you want in Fiji but luckily it only stuck around a couple of days.
The people in Fiji our so nice and we particularly fell in love with the bartender who was just a lovely guy and would help out in anyway he could
One slightly cooler day we decided to head up the mountain behind the resort, it was a short but fairly steep hike and very much worth it for the views out over the resort, the other beaches and the other islands. Really made us feel lucky to be able to be there and experience it.
Such an amazing few days at blue lagoon, we met some lovely people from all over the world and the island was absolutely fantastic! Didn't want to leave so quickly! We were lucky and got a good deal on the sea plane back to the main island, got some fantastic views over all the islands before staying one more night in the dorm room at Nadi Bay.
