Now the part of the trip begins when we visit the "living" relatives. We left Ingolstadt and arrived in Frankfurt 3 1/2 hours later, just in time for dinner at the home of Liesel and Gerda, cousins of Dad. Elizabeth was already there, having flown into Frankfurt earlier in the morning. We had a very nice visit which also included the traditional Kaffee und Kuchen at 4:00. We were joined in this by their nephew Juergen and also Liesel's son, Peter. Elizabeth was planning to take the train to Wuppertal, where she would be staying, but we offered to drive her there, since it was only an additional 40 minutes out of the way from our destination of Jim's cousin's in Bielefeld. This made for a less boring drive for Jim and me. We had some good laughs along the way. When we arrived at Mom's cousin Gertrude's, cousin Erwin and his wife Christa were already there and supper was also waiting for all of us. After supper Jim and l left for Bielefeld. I found driving on the Autobahn at night a bit more stressful than in daylight and "Edith" (the name Jim gave to the GPS) started taking us in circles due to an Autobahn exit that was blocked because of construction, but we eventually found our way to Waldemar's house at about 10:30. There we could finally relax over a German beer.
