First thing this morning we went back to the Petruskirche. It was locked, so it's a good thing we got to see the inside last night. We went to the cemetery again and talked to a fellow there who confirmed that there weren't any really old (pre 1800) gravestones. There was one very old one however, very close to the church, with the name Weidle, which appears in our family tree. When we went to the Stadt Museum, we were disappointed that it was closed, however Jim found a side door and rang the bell. A nice lady answered and when I told her I was from Canada and why I was there, she immediately invited us in and gave us a personalized tour. The museum was formerly a school house, where my ancestors would no doubt have gone to school. Upon leaving
Gerlingen, we drove to Moehringen, another nearby village where my ancestors lived. We found a large evangelical church there. Its origins apparently go back to the 8th century, but the current structure was built in the
1800s, after my ancestors would have emigrated east to Prussia. Then we headed for Ingolstadt, world headquarters of Audi. We found a nice, inexpensive Gasthaus on the way in, then drove to Audi. We were disappointed that we couldn't do a factory tour, because we didn't have a reservation, but we spent a few hours in the museum instead and learned much about the history of Audi. In the evening we explored the old town. This included a nice walk along the Danube, which flows through Ingolstadt.
