Today was a travel day. Left Radda at 6:00 am and drove about 3 hours north to Genoa, mostly on the Autostrada (18 Euro toll charge!). In Genoa we dropped the car at Hertz and determined that there are two train stations in Genoa, and ours was the further away one, so we squeezed into a cab for a 15 min. ride. Got on our train with time to spare, then had a nice train ride along the Italian Riviera to Ventimiglia, where we changed trains for Nice. Hertz was right at the train station in Nice. We got another Ford Focus there and drove to our hotel, which was a disappointment compared to Radda, but we weren't really expecting much from a two star. After a quick trip to a nearby grocery store, and another wine and cheese snack, it was late afternoon. We decided to go to Monte Carlo, about a 45 min. tram and train ride from our hotel. Wandered around the city at dusk. The lights and the fountains near the Casino were spectacular. By the time we got back to Nice it was late and we were tired, so a nearby McDonalds seemed like the simplest and quickest option for supper -- our first and hopefully last fast food on this trip!
