Another travel day, this time from Nice to Villeneuve de Avignon, a small village just across the Rhone river from Avignon. Our first stop was to be Antibes, be we had a parking lot incident there (a longer story) so we just left. Next stop was Ste. Maxime, where we had some drinks and picked up some things at Carrefour (a large Wal-Mart like grocery store). Then it was on to St. Tropez (of Briget Bardot fame) for a quick look around. Very much a resort destination (reminded us of the Okanagan). Next was Aix en Provence, a larger city where we went to a sidewalk cafe, looked at some shops, etc. Finally arrived at our destination late afternoon. Finding the place was a bit of a challenge, even with the GPS. Our two bdrm. two bath unit is in what used to be a stable, which was part of a monastery dating from the 14th century. Definitely rustic, but with a lot of charm and modern conveniences (like a washing machine which we definitely could use by now). Went for dinner at a restaurant in the monastery next door, which was good, but not great.
