Our hotel room in Nice was smaller than on the cruise ship and the shower had no enclosure, so it was tough to keep the bathroom from flooding when we showered, but we survived. At least it was reasonably clean. After breakfast we took the tram to the Old Town. We rented some bikes and had a very enjoyable hour long bike ride up and down the Promenade de Anglais, which has a designated bike path along the sea. After that we wandered into the market area (Cours Saleya) where we stopped to eat some fruit and have some refreshments. It's around 30 deg. and very humid. We did a walking tour through the Old Town and all the way back to our hotel. After a short rest we got back out on the Tram again and did some more walking, this time to visit a Russian Orthodox church, which was very interesting inside and out. Another stop was the Hotel Negresco. We just made like we were staying there and walked in to see some interesting things like a chandelier ordered by Czar Nicholas II, but never delivered before the Revolution. Nice appears to
have a lot of historical connections with Russia, which probably explains the many Russian tourists we are seeing. Had a nice dinner in an outdoor restaurant in the market. Lots of activity all around. We initially weren't too impressed, but Nice has grown on us since we've been here. It some strange way it reminds me a bit of Waikiki.
