Last day of the trip and last matches of the tour at the magnificent national stadium in KL. The boys again played tough opposition in the form of SMK Maxwell who proved too strong for them, winning 2-0. However, the team played with great fortitude and heart, giving all you could ask of them. Macca threw the dice in the second half, putting Ellis upfront to see if we could convert some of our chances to the mercurial gold of goals. This left the King Raj in goal who played a blinder, saving shot after shot bringing even the neutral to their feet. Well done!
The girls had an equally tough game in the form of SMK Sri Gombank. Clearly in Malaysia they do not understand the concept of U18 for there were at least two adult players on the team if not three! To add to our woes the side boasted two B internationals. This did not deter our girls who played a blinder to eventually lose 2-3 with Brammer scoring one of the best goals of the tour with an undercut into the roof of the net at an acute angle. The game was on a knife edge until the final whistle went and we had the chance to equalise, including one disallowed goal from a short corner. Even the usually calm Mrs. Mason shouting, " Come on umpire!"
The final tour meal was at an Outback restaurant. It proved a great success with various awards being given out including:
Captain's Awards: R. Mistry, E. Whelan, E. Iwanek, R. Johnson
Player of Tour: C. Hobbs, V. Sunter
Versatile Player of Tour: N. Patel, M. Bates
Best Tourist: R. Hopley, J. Lovatt
Best Surfing the Turf: R. Brammer
Best Air Guitar Award: A. Duthie
Blue Water Blue Sky Award: T. Lamberts
Life Saver and First Aid Award: J. Bland
Curly Hair Award: E. Dublin
Tri-annual Twin Towers Petronas Coaches Award sponsored by Lees Security (2010-13): Mrs. R. Mason
R. Mistry and the boys gave a great gift to Macca for all his hard work and effort he has made over the past 11 years for school hockey. It was a happy and emotional evening and a great way to finish the tour before we began the long 31 hour trip back home at five in the morning.
Thanks to Rosie Hopley, Henry finally found a wife after his second visit to Malaysia, aptly named Bearoncye. Thanks to Caroline for looking after Henry on tour.
Good-bye and best wishes
