Loved London......so vibrant and fast, perfect for the younger generations......would have loved to have lived there in the 70's! Would get trampled in the rush now though!
Up bright and early to catch the Eurostar to Paris.......London has turned on a sunny morning for our departure.
2 hours underwater.......should be interesting.
Hopefully we will leave our wretched colds behind in UK.
Picked up some snacks from one if the M&S (Marks & Spencer) 'food to go' shops.....seems to be quite a lot of these types of outlets in London. They sell pre-packaged fresh healthy food, almost anything you can imagine, ready to go. I even managed to get a gluten free sandwich this am.....such a variety of food available..... Most impressed.
Make that 20 mins underwater! Perhaps I should have researched this train trip a little!
French countryside is beautiful.
Apologies to anyone who might be reading our blogs and 'commenting', unfortunately we can't see any comments at this stage as our Wifi time is so limited that all we can do is upload
the blogs and a few photos in the time frame - and also we have been on the go every minute. Perhaps when we get to the cruise we may get a little catch up time to check them out.
Arrived in Paris station, and like all train stations, not a nice introduction to any city. Our travel guide has warned never to come back to the area!!
The sights are certainly improving.....driving around the ring road.......beautiful!!
Ok, this is better......Mecure hotel right next to The Eiffle Tower.....wow!!
Weather perfect.....10 degrees warmer than London.....thaw our time.
What a beautiful city......can't wait to explore it. Went for a walk and found a cute restaurant for dinner.....not getting involved in the optional tour tonight....just going to do own thing.
Absolutely love this architecture.....love the fact that they have kept it and not spoiled it with modern highrise......keep that for the newer cities. Lovely that each city seems to have established it's own identity.
Well we are out to dinner in a cute little French restaurant just near the hotel Right under the Eiffel Tower.....at this stage we are most impressed with the french hospitality, I am already in love with the waiter!!! Think Roger is too! Turns out our cute waiter had spent 6 mths in Aust working.....bless him..
Love their idea of a pitcher (small caraffe) of wine, just my size!!
Love the food!!
My gorgeous waiter just bought me crepes instead of creme caramel! Go the French cuisine!! Quickly rectified!!
I think Roger will need to carry me back to the hotel, I am legless!
PS. The sun has not set but we need to retire!!
Good nite!
For some reason we are following the public holidays around Europe......today we left London, it was a bank holiday.....now they tell us it is a bank holiday in France tomorrow! Can't they syncronise these things!!! Apparently our tour guide tell us that this is an advantage, less traffic in the city.
Somebody please explain the tipping protocol in this neck of the woods? The tour guides seem to have a hard and fast rule.......€4 for them, the local guide and the bus driver.......how much!.....I don't think so......the Romanian thief took our tipping funds!!
Roger's thoughts on the day.....
Waiting for the fast train to Paris, it is quite confusing and everyone looks flustered.
On the train and boy is it moving......according to the book it travels at 334km/hr (208 mph). If this thing come off the rails it would slide on it's side to Paris. We are passing cars going the same way over double their speed.
It is so easy to loose one another, one second we are neside one another and then the other one is gone. It is amazing how quickly it happens, and by the way it is not me wandering off, just lost Eileen in the food carriage.
Just been able to update our bank accts....we think the thief got just on $2500 in a space of 6 mins, if we had not cancelled the card so quickly imagine what he could have taken in a couple of hours!
Enjoyed the train ride, really different.
Arrived in Paris, nice hotel just 3 blocks away from Eiffel Tower.
Lovely dinner in a cute cafe near Eiffel Tower. I have noticed that the more we get into the holiday the less we are eating.
I miss my bar fridge, these guys seem to have the temp on heat!
