Tarifa, on the Straits of Gibraltar at the southernmost tip of mainland Europe-where the Mediterranean and the Atlantic meet has become Europe's biggest wind and kite-surfing centre. It is one of the earliest Moorish settlements in Spain. It is a port of departure for Morocco in Africa and that is one of the reasons we are here. We plan a day trip to Gibraltar and a day trip to Morocco!!!

Tarifa's10th century castle is famous for the siege of 1202, when the defender Guzman el Bueno refused to surrender even though the attacking Moores threatened to kill his captive son. We are renting an apartment very near here in the old town. We go for an evening stroll and on our way to tucking in for the night, we pass restaurants in our neighborhood that are setting their tables for the first dinner serving at 10 PM!!!
