My first beach! Naturally I sat in the shade. But nevertheless...
Left the Bay of Islands early Sunday morning with the full intention of heading back to Auckland with the girls I had met in Paihia, but got waylaid and ended up in a sleepy town called Hokianga. It's known for, well, some really big trees. I think the biggest and oldest in NZ, around 2,000 years old so were mear saplings when Jesus was just a nipper...
Went on a 'Twighlight' walk to see them with some Mauri dude, who told us all about the history/culture/area etc. Quite a nice change from the norm, cue lots of picture taking (and subsequent deleting based on shere volume) but I think I got some nice pics. The last tree we saw was only about 50m tall, but as wide as a bus. Matt, you would have been impressed. (Photo's to follow at some point) The hostel I stayed at was at the top of a hill and surrounded by silence. Lots of time was spent in the hammock. (Aside of course from my detour to the (deserted, picture perfect) beach). Lovely.
Arrived back in Auckland yesterday afternoon and have spent the day sorting some stuff out - I now have a NZ sim card (pen and paper ready please) phone no 0064 210297 6538. I expect texts.
Been with a lovely american girl all day - literally all day (went to the museum, lunch, shops and going to see her now) but can I remember her name? Can I hell...
Ah well. Beer calling... xx
