Left Twizel to rejoin the Magic bus on the final leg of my journey to Christchurch. Had one more stop off in Lake Takapo (which I appear to be spelling wrong as this thing doesn't recognise it) but a huge aqua blue lake awaited us. Something along the lines of the water running off the nearby glacier combining with minerals making is such a beautiful colour. I don't know - google it.
Went all out and had chinese - so good! Except the prawn crackers which were frankly disappointing (especially as Mikey had never had them before), before returning to our backpacker mentality and grabbing cider for the lakefront which we drank out of mugs. Who said travellers weren't classy people!
Anyway, with a touch of a headache we rejoined the bus for the final (sniff) journey into Christchurch the next morning. Apparently the most 'English-looking' town in New Zealand - not really what I came to the other side of the world for, but lovely all the same.
Stayed in a place called 'City Oasis' - one of the most interesting rooms I've had since I've been here. Imagine the scene if you will. You close your eyes, about to drop off into the land of nod, when something stirs. You're not quite sure where you are for a moment as the Yeti in the bed below lets out a growl. Then a kind of squak. You're awake now. Clinging to the covers - eyes wide open. It moves. It may even get up. What ever it did, it was loud. Another roar and it's back asleep. You can hear the blood pumping in your ears. But for now all is peaceful.
Again, you close your eyes. That's strange you think. I didn't realise I knew portugese. Wait. I don't. But I can hear it. Yes, the people next door have decided to watch some tv. Right outside our window. The Yeti stirs again. Now we're faced with more growling. I look at Mikey from across the room. The fear evident in his eyes even in the dark.
It was at this point that I decided the ear plugs needed to come out. Pretty good sleep after that!
Had a traipse around the Museum (a regular occurance it appears - I don't feel any wiser for it though) possibly one of the most interesting looking museums so far, but left you staring at each display unaware of exactly what we were supposed to make of it. Still, it was free.
This is getting long isn't? Had my first Rugby experience. Unsurprisingly I didn't have a clue what was going on. But lots of people ran in various directions. And people shouted a bit. The Crusaders won. That was apparently the outcome we were looking for. Myself and Mikey (American, therefore also no clue what was going on) particually enjoyed the mexican waving and cheerleader routines...
Fun fun fun xx
