Leg 5; race 8 day 4
Up at 5.45am for shift at 6 got soaked by waves a few times : managed to eat some porridge. Sat by the helm for a while with Carl helming the waves were enormous around 10 metres. As I sat there it made me feel really proud of what I was doing and proud of Carl as he works so hard on the boat and is really good on the helm. We are in 6th place now.
Came off shift at 10 and straight into bunk : mine stinks of desil so went into the skippers bobs but his leaked so kept getting dripped on and where we were slamming around so much in the waves I kept getting thrown about. So at 2pm got into sophie bunk. I must admit lay there worrying ; have no AIS although we have radar they don't seem to be checking it.
My tummy hurts probably hungry but can't face food ; had an apple at lunch and will have one for tea. Up at 5.30 to go on shift for 6pm
Sat on deck and sophie bless her reassured me saying we were near the other clipper boats and they are aware we have no AIS,also a lot of other boats around and Bob checks the radar.
Got soaked a few times feel wet through and cold. Came off shift at 10pm dozed on the sail laying in the galley. Got up to clean the heads and was sick the boat is bashing around so much. Carl was so tired too he had been on the helm and it is hard in these rough seas. He laid on the sail in the galley.
Wanted to write crew diary but couldn't as felt so sick so sophie wrote it for me. I laid on the galley floor whilst she wrote it. Sent a special message to Jodie as its her birthday on 3th March ; 26 years old. Wow that makes me feel old !
Feeling low tired and ache all over, in bed at 2am had to use Lindsey's bunk but couldn't find my pillow !!! Even more sad !!
Miles covered 236 ; speed 3.2-9.3: wind 24-39
