The minibus picked us up at 7.30am from our resort in Koh Lanta, we had a good journey chatting to two really nice British couples. We shared travelling stories and tips. When we arrived to the port in'Klong Kin' we got transferred onto a longtail boat which took approximately 20 minutes to arrive in East Railay which is the cheaper side of the peninsula. Railay itself is beautiful, it is surrounded by stunning limestone cliffs.
We stopped off to look at the 'Diamond Cave' resort (Jay has stayed here before when travelling on his own). They quoted us a price for the cheapest room, 600 THB per night and it sounded good so we went with a staff at the resort to check the room out. We were pleased with the room, it was very spacious with two double beds (which we could not believe), hot water and a fan. The added bonus was a swimming pool (can not complain with that), all this for 6 pounds each per night!
As we were hot and sticky from the humidty, we had a quick shower and got ready to have a look around. We walked approximately 10 minutes to West Railay where the nicer beach was. We had lunch at the 'Sand Sea' restaurant where Jay had a shrimp Phad Thai and Helen had mixed seafood Phad Thai. They were very tasty and big portions. After this we had a drink at a beach bar as it clouded over and rained. Jay had a can of Leo beer and Helen had a strawberry yoghurt drink. On the way back to our room, we spotted a stall selling handmade jewellery made by a local couple. The lady custom made a wristband for each of us which we had to collect later once she had made them. Whilst at the stall we met Kate and Kyle from Chicago. We ended up giving advice about Koh Lanta and Koh Rok which they were very keen on.
Helen was tired from the day's travelling and rested in the room whilst Jay popped out to get some beer at the minimart. On his way, he saw the colours in the sky and realised that there could be a nice sunset, so he ran back to get Helen (without the beer haha). We both ran (well Jay ran and Helen tried to keep up haha) to West Railay beach before it was too late to capture the sunset.
For dinner, we ate at our resort, we shared a shark steak with egg fried rice. Jay had a large bottle of Chang and Helen had fresh orange juice. The shark steak was very tasty and tender. It was served with a jacket potato cooked with garlic and butter. After dinner we went to a tree house bar where we sat up the top on mats and cushions. Jay had a bottle of Chang and also a sangsom rum with coke and Helen had an 'orgasm' cocktail. There was also a hammock up there which we took advantage of.
Later in the evening, Helen noticed that her mosquito bites were swelling up and rubbed tiger balm on it which was cooling and gave some relief.
Whilst trying to sleep, we heard crickets and toads and they were very loud!
