We had breakfast at 9am, we both had muesli with yoghurt and fresh fruits. After breakfast we headed to the start point of the 'Lagoon Trek'. Helen could not believe what she got herself into as the clay-like mud looked very slippery, this was because it had rained yesterday. It also looked extremely steep to climb up. We climbed to the peak of the ascent which Helen found daunting enough but Jay knew that there was worse to come as he has done this trek before. We carried on with the trek and reached the start of the descent into the lagoon. After the initial climb down this was where it got really tricky involving steep vertical descents (90 degrees angle) using ropes which were slippery as leverage. This was like abseiling down slippery rocks. There were three vertical descents to climb down. We found the whole descent physically challenging, it was determination and team spirit that kept us going. One particular lady called Ann from Santa Monica stuck with us during the whole experience. When we reached the lagoon, it was beautiful. It had emerald green water and the surrounding cliffs were amazing. We admired the view for a while and were proud of what we had accomplished. The next challenge was getting back up and heading to the 'Viewpoint'. This was slightly easier getting back up and we made it up in good time. When we got to the 'higher viewpoint', the views over Railay were magnificent. After taking in the fantastic view, we climbed back down to where we started. The whole trek was a fantastic achievement and was very satisfying. We did not have a tour guide or any harness to assist us through this difficult trek. This was one of the most challenging experience we have completed. (Jay has done this trek before but not when it was slippery) We completed the lagoon trek with only a few scratches and bruises. Jay had a bruised knee and Helen had a bruised elbow, she also had a few nasty mosquito bites.
We met Ann at the 'Railay Bay' resort bar to have a few celebratory drinks. At this bar we also met a few people from Florida and also a guy called Jonathan from England who's father is living in Singapore through business and they both decided to go Thailand for a holiday. The people from Florida were all interested in visiting London one day. Jay's friend John from Philadelphia spotted us and came over to join us for drinks. Everyone was so friendly, it was a good atmosphere. There was a sound system at the bar and we shared music by plugging in each other's phone. It was nice chilling and time just flew by. We realised that we had to get some dinner and book the 'James Bond' tour for tomorrow, so we left the bar and walked to our resort to get some prices for the tour. After some haggling we bought the tickets for 1100 THB each which included canoeing.
We had dinner at a local Thai food restaurant where we met a nice French couple who we got chatting to. Jay had fried red curry with chicken and Helen had fried chicken noodles which was OK, not the best. Jay enjoyed his dinner as it was spicy and tasty.
After dinner we went to the 'Joy bar' which was a nice chilled out bar. We shared a bottle of Chang.
Later in the evening, Helen heard the gecko mating call for the first time which sounds like 'gecko' !
