We arrived in chiang Mai northern Thailand by overnight train which was an experience in itself! Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand.Its main attractions are wats (Temples), trekking,and to visit the famous hilltribe villages in the surrounding highlands. Today we went on a day tour to Kanchanaburi from Bangkok famous for its proximity to the bridge over the River Kwai. Our first stop was at the war cemetery where 7,000 Allied serviceman are buried,most of whom died as prisoners of war whilst they built the burma railway.Our next stop was at the JEATH war museum,this was very educating as there is a reconstruction of a prisoner of war camp and other war memorabilia.
