Today was the day that I had been really looking forward to, visiting El Alamein (the war museum and cemetery) and today was also the day that my cold really set in.Great timing! It was about an hour and a half's drive and the museum was very old fashioned and kitschy inside but the letters home from the Aussie diggers we beautiful to read.Outside you could see some trenches and different types of vehicles, guns and a plane. The war cemetery was unlike any I have seen before but as usual it was in immaculate condition and was a moving place to visit.Wandering through the graves, reading the inscriptions, and looking around at the desolate land that they were fighting for, it was so hard to put everything into context. We drove back to Alexandria (this is when the cold really set in and when I felt shocking) and visited the catacombs, Pompay's pillar and gardens where we saw lovers bridge and the palace. We went back to the hotel and got ready for dinner. The whole group (minus 1 family) decided to walk to a local restaurant recommended by Ibrahim. It was a dry restaurant but it was good food at good prices.Walking there and back you could feel the excitement in the streets growing as Egypt was playing an African Cup match later that evening (however it didn't stop the usual harassment from the Egyptian males). We went to the hotel restaurant for desert and then watched some of the game in the hotel bar (Egypt won 2-0).
