Today was the day we had to leave our winter wonderland. We had such a great time in whistler neither of us wanted to leave. We caught the shuttle for the 2 hour drive along one of the most scenic drives possible and as we left Whistler we were poised with our cameras ready to take photos of what the locals call the million dollar view.Alas as we drove towards the best part, the fog rolled in and you could have thought we were in San Francisco. The shuttle dropped us right at the hotel which happened to be the tallest hotel in Vancouver and it has a trendy restaurant at the top with a great view. After checking in we went for a walk to get acquainted with Vancouver and find some lunch. Our hotel is located on Robson Street which is the main shopping strip which would have been great but today is Boxing Day and that means sales here just like in Australia. The main difference that I noticed here is that it is winter yet people are prepared to line up in the cold to get into a shop to buy things that could be up to 70 % off (but it's not guaranteed). We took ages to find a Shopping Mall with a food court but it was so busy we changed our mind and went for a bigger lunch at an Irish pub. Then we went for a walk to the Vancouver Lookout and went to the top. (We think it is actually smaller than our hotel) we got a great view of the city side of Vancouver but the water was still covered with fog.It did provide an interesting photo of the Lions Gate Bridge though. We walked back to the hotel and got ready for our Ice Hockey Game.GM Place is right at the other end of Vancouver but we decided to try and walk out some of our stiffness from skiing by walking to the game. When we found our seats and were really happy 9 rows from the front right near the goal line that Vancouver was shooting to.The atmosphere was great and the game was pretty easy to follow. At least two pucks made it into the crowd and there was one great fight that the refs just stood and watched. If it was AFL the players would be suspended for at least 5 weeks in the NHL they each got 5 min in the sin bin. That's COOL.Vancouver won the game and the crowd celebrated by making noise the whole way home.We both loved our hockey experience.
