Yesterday was amazing! We went to the floating markets outside of Bangkok, took a while to get there but the coach journey wasn't too bad. We got there and had a browse around the markets, ate lunch (patthai... a local dish of noodles, chicken and vegetables) for 50 baht (one pound!) which was cooked by a Thai woman in a kitchen out in the open...it really gave us a look into what life is like out here.People take things for granted too easy, here they make do with what they have...these people were living on the water in wooden houses, and get around by boats...they even cook on the boats! Its truly amazing to see it.
They also live very closely with monitor lizards, we saw a HUGE one walking right underneath the beams of somebodies house!
After we'd had a boat ride around the market and residential areas we got back on the coach to go and see the River Kwai... don't really see the big deal, would have preferred more time with the tiger temples afterwards!
We only had an hour at the tiger temples, but getting to sit next to them and pet them when they are not behind bars and you know in the back of your mind that they ARE wild animals and they could turn at any minute, it was just such an experience! We also got to pet a baby leopard!
The bus journey back was awful! We tried to get some sleep as it was 4 hours back to Bangkok, but it was such a bumpy ride and the mini-bus was so uncomfortable it just wasn't possible!
As it was our last night in Bangkok last night we decided to go and have a look at the bars and clubs, we found a nice little bar and had one of the best Mojitos (not as good as Luke's Mum's though ;-)) ever! The bars were around the night markets, which was interesting as there was a lot of people about, and then just as we got settled... they all decided to close. LOL. FAIL. The one was called "Tapas" and was pumping out bongo music, very lively and the kinda place i'd love to come back and have a damn good night out in!
We were making our way back, after a McDonalds because we were hungry...we paid about 4 pound for absolutely loads. Two LARGE meals. And an extra chicken burger too...sorry to be so fat, but it was amazing!
Luke also got a picture outside with a big plastic Ronald McDonald doing the "wai" Thai greeting! haha!
We had every intention of coming on here last night to update, but on the way back two doors down from our hotel we bumped into an Irish guy who asked us to go for a drink with him in the bar a few doors away, so we did...we thought why not! We got talking and he said he was now living in Bangkok but doesn't go out here much, and wanted to know if we knew of any decent bars that were still open...ummm...third night, I doubt we know any more than you mate!
He then suggested we go for another drink elsewhere, and took us to a bar back in the area we'd came from...you wouldn't know it was there unless you looked for it! Just a door on a street, and inside was a busy bar with good music, but we didn't stay long, as there was a bunch of Thai girls who were looking to pull men...AND women! Lol!
We got a tuktuk back to our hotel, which was cool, and a lot of fun. I'm surprised we still made breakfast as we got in at 5am. A bit tired today but had to be up as we're waiting around to move on to Chiang Mai now! The next part of our adventure! :-P Where we're gonna get to ride elephants! ARGH I CAN'T WAIT!!!
Will update again soon! :-D
