The journey on the Oz bus to Mission Beach was great. It was such a hot day, so our driver (Forest) made time for us to stop at a water hole. When we got there we only had about 15 minutes to spare, so it was a quick change into the bikini and then into the water. It was so refreshing and was a shame we didn't have a bit longer, but it was definitely worth every minute. After the water hole we had another stop at a fine pebbly beach where it massages your feet, it felt so nice and my feet were lovely and soft afterwards. It was then all the way to the hostel. When I arrived and checked in I noticed how peaceful it was. It had a swimming pool, was right near the beach and was a small beach town.
The first thing I had to do was the boring stuff and do some food shopping. They provided a courtesy bus to the supermarket and on the bus I got talking to a girl from Essex and we got on really well. When we had finished our shopping I started walking back to the bus and noticed that it had already left. I started to panic a bit as I hadn't been paying attention to where we had come from, because I had been talking. I wasn't sure where Sarah was either, but then thankfully I saw here walking up aswel. We waited for a bit incase it came back, but it didn't. We asked one of the locals and she said it wasn't far to walk and we could always hitch hike! I looked at Sarah and we both said that there is no way we are doing that. The woman looked at us like we were crazy and I just said that I've seen too many horror films to do that! So we started walking in the direction that we thought was right, and together we found our way back.
We sat around the pool and had some drinks and then whilst Sarah was on the phone I got talking to a couple (John and Bonnie) on the table and they mentioned a live band at a bar called Cocunuts and asked if we wanted to come along. None of us had showered or anything, so it was a quick change and then on the bus to take us there.
When we arrived I wasn't too sure about it, as it was a bit quiet, but we got some drinks and ordered some food and it started to get a bit busier as the night went on. John had had too much goon at the hostel, so Bonnie had to take him back at only half 9! Sarah had bumped into two of her cousins friends though, so we spent the night with them (what a small world!) We had a good night, but we soon noticed that the bar is very much a local bar and there were some real hill billies in there. One strange bloke with long, black, greasy hair kept coming up to us and just saying arggghhhh and then walking away laughing crazily!! Very strange and reminded me of something out of the hills have eyes. We tried to stay clear of him for the rest of the night.
The next few days and nights were just relaxing ones and I spent most time at the beach again. It was such a gorgeous beach and really big, so I picked a spot and there wasn't anyone else around for the whole day. Pure bliss! The only thing I didn't like about Mission Beach was the bugs. There were quite a lot of them and some of them were massive! After two months of being in Oz, I still can't get used to the bugs. I was quite tempted to do a sky dive, as Mission Beach is where most people do them, but have been told it's a lot cheaper in New Zealand, so am going to wait until then.
Hope everyone is ok xx
