Hayley & Holly On Tour 2006
I have forgotten what day we are on so its the 30th (see above!)!
Today we are did a few more of the sights of Hanoi, we visited the Mosaleum (which i cant spell) and saw the body of Ho Chi Minh (being a cynic regarding these things i agree with some that it may not actually be him and a creation of Madame Tuassauds, but then again i have very little knowledge of embalming and its long term effects! Hope that doesnt offend anyone!) The filing in to see him took some time mainly due to security, you have to leave your bag in one place and then your phone and camera in another- very confusing! The filing in was very sombre, there were guards along the way with sharp looking baonets on top of their guns (i resisted quoting Apocolypse Now for the safety of my inner organs) and you go round him in a square, this then leads you onto his house and summer house- the main house apparently got to hot in the summer so they built him a cooler one!!
After visiting Uncle Ho we made our way for an ice cream and a wee rest until the next place opened- we have discovered the nicest ice creams which come in a variety of flavours including sticky rice and green bean for under 10p!! We then visited the Hoa Lo Prison, which the americans dubbed the Hanoi Hilton when their pilots were pows there. The history was really interesting and they had on display one of the guillotines they used to chop off the heads of those that went against the French when they were in town. In all our visits were slightly on the macarbe side of things but equally as interesting.
We are now preparing ourselves for a delightful 14 hour bus ride down to Hue, we have stocked up on cookies and pringles to keep hunger at bay!
We shall check in again with tales of Hue- many a historic sight to be seen and even a citiadel!!
Take care and we shall check in soon
Missing you all
Holly and Hayley
