Hayley & Holly On Tour 2006
Hello everyone,
Apologies again for the inappropriate picture- im just going to pick at random from now on!
Well we are currently in Ho Chi Minh City, we left Nha Trang yesterday, we spent our final day there wandering around and hunting for the bus ticket office- which had moved and our map and the lonely planet had it in completly the wrong place- so with the temperature over 30 made for a nice hot walk about!! We consoled ourselves and spent our last evening eating in the Nha Trang Sailing Club (every place should have one) It is odd eating at a sailing club without a boat in sight but hey ho the food was very good!
We had our final bus ride yesterday- a supposed 9 hour journey that in fact took 11 hours- we did a quick total and realised we have in fact spent a total of 47 hours on buses!!
The first impression of Ho Chi Minh City was a good one, it is the most modern city we have seen in Vietnam- high rised buildings and everything- the complete opposite to Hanoi which is odd as Hanoi is the capital! We went out for a walk about as soon as we arrived to get a feel of the place, the traffic is a little harder to negotiate through but the area we are staying in has a good atmosphere to it.
We have spent today taking in some history. We visited the War Remnants Museum, it used to be called the Museum of Chinese and American War Crimes so you can guess the theme. The content of the museum cetainly hits you straight between the eyes, the pictures of the war are pretty brutal and nothing is censored, they have pictures of the fighting, the civilian casualites, the affect of bombing, military equipment and the after effects of chemical bombs. It was very interesting, especially the section which told you all about the war journalists and showed you a collection of their work and story. It was as you can imagine rather one sided but defiantly worth a visit, but a strong stomah is needed.
We have just returned from dinner- to celebrate our last night in Vietnam we had....pizza followed by a pancake smeared in Nutella!!! Not authentic but bloody tasty!
We are now getting ready to leave Vietnam about lunch time tomorrow and head for Australia after a brief stopover in Singapore Airport.
We have both really enjoyed Vietnam, it has been a challenge at times (especially the toilet situation on bus rides!) but the places we have seen and the things we have done has far outweighed any challenge. My personal highlight was the visit to the Vin Moch Tunnels which were really interesting, Hayley is undecided about hers so you will have to wait with baited breath until she returns!
Anyway we shall see you down under!!
Take care, missing you all
love
Holly and Hayey
