Hi everyone,
On Thursday we started Day 1 of our 3 day Western Xposure Tour of the South West. 6.00am start, made even worse by the fact it was pouring down with rain! Hit the road by 7.00am and started our journey down south along the Great Southern Highway. 1st stop was the Dolphin Discovery Centre in Koombana Bay, Bunbury. Pretty dissappointing as the dolphins were a no-show due to the poor conditions. A bit of a let down as currently 40-50 dolphins inhabit the bay.
We pressed on to Bussleton, which was our lunch stop by the sea. We had a picnic battling the rain & wind - very British weather! After lunch we walked along the longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere, extending over 1km out to sea.
Next stop was Ngilgi Caves which were limestone caves full of stalagmites, stalactites and pillars. The "amphitheatre" was pretty awesome! Walking around it was pretty humid and oxygen was limited as we were so far down.
After the caves we had a coffee stop in Margaret River, not that impressive as everything was closing up for the day! On the way to Augusta, our overnight stop, we stopped to watch the sun set over the beach. It was nice to be by the sea again, just a shame it was so cold!
Stayed in a nice hostel in Augusta overnight. It was more like a self-catering apartment. We had to cook a bbq for tea undercover because of the rain. An early night for all after our long day.
And that was Day 1!
