Sunday 17th April
Breakfast at 6am we packed our stuff, said goodbye to our 6 amazing crew members and headed on land to Puerto Ayora to catch a bus to the El Chato tortoise reserve. It was very muddy and hot but we did sees few tortoises (the most famous reptile in the archipelago, they can live for several hundred years. Seafarers killed tortoises for their meat in the 18th and 19th centuries and from an estimated population of 200,000 only some 15,000 now remain.)
We then headed to twin craters called Los Gemelos. These are actually sinkholes, not volcanic craters and they are surrounded by Scalesia forest.
We then said our goodbyes to our amazing group as some were flying back to Ecuador today. We had another night in Puerto Ayora so got a taxi back, found a hotel, had a proper shower! And chilled for the rest of the day before heading out to dinner with the remainder of our group (the 2 Swiss girls and the Canadian lad)
