Wednesday 9th March
After an eventful night we were awake quite early as we could here the howler monkeys howling which was quite a scary sound! I slept fine, I actually found the frog and cricket noises quite relaxing! Poor Joe was absolutely eaten alive by something we thought Mosquitos but he later found a spider in his bed!
We had breakfast (fruit salad, fritters, toast and scrambled egg) and then went to get our wellies to go Anaconda hunting! When the guide pulled out wellies for me there was a huge orange hairy spider on them! Definatly put me off wearing them!
So at about 9am we jumped back in the boat and cruised through reeds to a marshy swamp like island to hunt for anacondas! I decided to stay on the boat as I didn't want to put the wellies on! Joe had small holes in his wellies so ended up getting very wet muddy feet, apparently the wellies were only to stop the anacondas from biting our feet!
Everyone looked for anacondas but only found a baby one! Our guide Jamie was chest deep wading through the water with a mashette! We spent about an hour here then we cruised down the river and saw loads more monkeys and birds!
We then headed back to our accommodation for lunch (soup, rice vegetables and fried chicken) then Jamie told us we'd go out again at 3 and be able to swim with the pink dolphins. So we all went into the hammock room and chilled out for a few hours. One of the lads from the other boat was sitting on the stairs and happened to look down and the alligator was at his feet just opening her jaw! Very close!
Just before 3pm it started lashing down! So we waited till 4 for it to ease off then went back out in the boat. We came across dolphins straight away and Colin and Nick decided to get in (the rest of us opted out as there are alligators in there too and Jamie said it was about 7 meters deep and very murky water so you couldn't see anything!)
As soon as Colin and Nick got in the dolphins avoided us, they were teasing us and swimming under the boat, we spent a while trying to get them to play along but they didn't so we went for a cruise and saw lots more dolphins along with more birds (vultures, toucans, eagles, parrots, budgies) we even saw a huge nest with eggs in were not sure what the bird was but it was huge their wing span was over a meter!
We then went to a bar (yup - a bar on the river!) to watch the sunset while having a few drinks then back to the hostel for dinner (pasta, bread and salad) then we sat up having a few drinks and chatting. Our guide gave us the option at getting up at 5.30 to see the sunrise, noone really wanted to make the decision so we tossed a coin and it landed on watching the sunrise! So we all headed to bed ready for an early start!
