After cooking up our free pancake breakfast ('free' meaning 'this is a rather pricey hostel for what you get so we will try and cover this up by giving out some eggs and flour'), wandered down avenida centrale toward Casco Viajo, the old part of Panama City (not the old old town, but the newer old town of which some buildings remain). Bit like Havana in that there are a lot of buildings in disrepair that were clearly very nice indeed at one point. Picked up some handicrafts at the market in the main plaza, watched some traditional dancing and wandered around the promenade for good views of panama city's skyscrapers and boats lining up to go through the canal.
