Monday 6th April
We arrived very early in Fiji and walked staright out of the plane into 24 C at 6 am!! Very hot! As soon as we got our bags etc we headed out of the airport to catch our shuttle bus down to the marina where we would catch our ferry to coral view island about 4 hours north of Fiji. Slater surprised his girlfriend aurora just before we got on the bus which was quite sweet really (apparently slater has a gay side and it came out in front of all of us then!)
After all the gayness had finished we jumped on our ferry and headed for coral view. It was an amazing day and all the little isalnds off fiji just looked like pure paradise!! Clear blue water, palm trees and white sandy beaches. We arrived on coral view at lunchtime to a very warm welcome having around 30 people saying BULA (hello/welcome in fijian) to us in one long line. My first impressions of the fijian people where that they were the friendliest people ever and thsi continued for the whole week. After all our travelling there was only one thing that we could do and that was lie in a hammock in the sun all afternoon which was very nice.
After a fijian meal for dinner we were entertained by the fijian people with their crazy after dinner games. International hermit crab racing was on the agenda for this evening. We all bet on crabs, i bet on three called silver sword, black hawk and rainbow runner unluckily for me none of them won or got anywhere near winning the race from the centre of the circle to the outside of the circle. Guy won $30, lucky little s***. But it was all a good laugh and it started us off for a chilled evening with cocktails and fijian beer.
Tues 7th April
We pretty much chilled all day in the sun which was really nice. At the end of the day we ended up having an amazing game of 1 touch rugby against the locals, they were all pretty good as 7 s is the biggest sport in Fiji so they all play everyday. We had an awesome time, almost passed out due to the heat and and the intense game but we were saved halfway through when there was a quick but refreshing bit of torrential rain, a standard fiji occurance. After an awesome game of touch we had a chilled out evening with a bit of fijian bula dancing.
Wed 8th April
I woke up early as i had signed up to do a shark feed dive. I hadn't dived for a year so i was a little nervous especially as i would be only a couple of metres away from a a bunch of sharks. 5 of us headed out in a little fishing boat for about 20mins off the island and then moored up kitted up and rolled in. We headed down to about 20metres where we sat on the sea bed as one of the instructors lowered a green wheelie bin full of fish heads and tails. He opened in and a bit of blood spred around in the water and all the little fish went a bit crazy. After a while the sharks started coming. In the end there were 3 white tips about 1.5m long, 4 black tips about 2metres long and there was one massive 4m lemon shark which ate a whole tuna head in one gulp. It was a pretty cool dive and an awesome experience.
After my shark dive we jumped back on the ferry and headed to another island called Korovue where we chilled for the rest of the day had a few beers in the evening and then ran around naked on the beach in the heaviest rain i have ever seen. It would have been rude to not get naked and run around! haha!!
Thursday 9th April
Another chilled day in the sun in fiji. Finished with another awesome game of touch against the locals, this time it was england vs fiji though!! 4 on 4. At first we got put around the park a bit but we soon got the hang of their one touch rules and we almost beat them at the end. Was another awesome experience and was nice to bond with the locals through both our favourite sports. We then had a few chilled beers and had an early ish night.
Friday 10th April
We had a chilled morning in the sun and then headed off to our last destination Bounty Island (where they filmed celebrity love island). This was probably the nicest of the three island although we were in a 20 bed dorm room. We made the most of happy hour and had a few awesome cocktails my favourite being a bounty cha cha (Blue curcao, midori, fresh banana and pineapple juice). we then tried the local drink which is called Kave. It was basically muddy water and didnt taste very nice but it was meant to chill u out. It didnt really work and just made us feel sick so we gave up and went to bed.
Sat 11th April
We took advantage of the free snorkelling and me sam and guy headed out for a good hour on the coral reef just off the beach. We saw some really cool starfish and a couple of cool fish but was a good laugh. We then chilled in the sun for the rest of the day as it was our last day in fiji. The next part of the day was pretty crazy! Our ferry was meant to turn up at 4 30 so that we could catch our flight at 7 but the standard fijians were so chilled out that they still weren't there at 5 so we had to pay a local fisherman to bomb us over to the mainland in his boat. We got to the mainland at 5.35 so we had 25 mins to do a 30min journey in a taxi to the airport. Luckily we got an ex traffic cop taxi driver who drove like a crazy man and we almost died about 3 times we managed to get to the airport at 5.59 to then be told that our flight had been cancelled a month ago!! SO FUNNY and classic slater for not checking!! We then got put up by the airline in a really nice hotel which to us was absolute luxury, we had an all u can eat buffet, got our washing done and chilled out and watched the plasma TV in our room, absolutely awesome outcome for us!!
Sun 12th April
