Friday 3rd April
We woke up very early again for another early flight from melbourne to adelaide so that we could watch the IRB world 7's series. As soon as we got to adelaide we jumped in our cab with a very nice driver called mario who told us all the do's and don'ts of adelaide which stuipidly seemed to go in one ear and out the other as we were later caught out by the weather which he had told us to be wary of. We had a chilled morning in the hostel recharging our batteries for a hard weekend of beer and rugby. We then headed down to the adelaide oval at around 3 to pick up our tickets and have a few beers before any of the games started.
As soon as we got into the ground the weather closed in and we all had to where our free rap mac things that we d picked up from the beer tent earlier, shame the weather wasn't what we had expected it to be!! But we watched all 8 of the opening games with huge enthusiasm always supporting the underdog in each game. Excluding engalnd i think kenya had become all of ours favourite team. England played last against australia and unluckily for us but luckily for cas the aussies took it with a last minute try which we where all very disappointed with as we had been hyping england up as one of the best teams the whole plane journey!
Sat 4th April
As this was going to be the biggest day we had a night in on the friday. We woke up early and headed to the supermarket and bought loads of picnic food and a bit of cheaper booze which we smuggled into the ground. England played quite early on beating portugal but then later on had a very tight but good game with samoa which ended up in a 24 - 24 draw. Luckily for england we went through to the main cup on try difference. Kenya had an absolutely epic win over South africa (no.1 in the world this season) beating them 15 - 14 which got the massive kenyan crowd going mad. Kenya had the most fans by a very long way, even outdoing the aussies with a massive section of the stand full of kenyans. After a long day at the rugby dressed all in pyjamas to try and get on TV which didnt work in the end we headed back to the hostel to go and get ready for a night out in adelaide.
After a quick nandos and a rather amusing incident with a very drunk aussie fat kid we headed to what was meant to be the best club in adelaide called HQ. After alot of queing me cas and sam got in but slater and guy went home complaing of a rare disease which has come up a few time travelling known as pussyitis (apparently it was sun stroke but cas is only in his second year of medicine). So me cas and sam headed into what was Oceana but in adelaide. Pretty much exactly the same it was hilarious (basically a complet s***hole full of australian chavs). But we headed straight to the bar for what was the worst jagerbomb i have ever had!! The evening then evolved into cas getting very drunk and making us do what is called 151 (a very strong shot of 80% rum) which really got the evening going! Then after a bit of dancing we got hungry and headed to the nearest fast food pizza place with a slogan saying 'U can't go wrong" and we didnt!!
Sun 5th
The last day of the rugby! Me cas and sam woke up feeling a little worse for wear whilst slater and guy where fine and made us get up. So headed down to the rugby for the slightly earlier sunday start as there were more games that needed to be played. England played early on against Fiji in the Cup quarter finals and lost very badly 42 - 0, fiji were incredible to be fair but no change there, this put us into the plate to face New Zealand who had lost to south Africa in their quarter final. We played really well and beat them 3 tries to 2 and sent us into the final to play australia again in the own back yard. Stupidly due to flight times we had to leave before the finals but england did win beating australia in the final of the plate but sadly for kenya they lost in the final of the main competition to south africa who took a narrow win and a bit of revenge from the previous days loss. It was an awesome weekend and it was really nice to catch up with cas (and hayhoe in melbourne) but the next stop was Fiji to surprise Slaters girlfrined aurora!
