I arrived in Sydney and was very disapointed with the weather. Me and the 2 girls from the plane made way for the shuttle busses, but they were on a different one to me as they were staying in Bondi. I waited on my bus while some man depressed me about how it was the coldest summer in 50 years..brilliant! Luckily a girl got on the bus, we got chatting and turns out she was at Bournemouth uni at the same time, graduated the same year and is from Cornwall! How strange. Me and Emma arranged to meet when we had checked in at the hostel and we went for food and a drink. We managed to find a $3 wine place..perfect! This was at 4 in the afternoon so it only got worse. We went to Side bar, under Wake up hostel where she was staying. It was free drinks for guests so we just passed her key card between us and we got even more drunk. We then ended up in Scubar doing kareoke. Not my finest hour! The next day we did the touristy things, went to the opera house and the harbour bridge etc. The sun sort of came out but not realy. Emma had just been to Tokyo so she was all depressed at being there and so was I. The next few days sort of consisted of the same sort of thing and we then made Christmas day plans with a bunch of people. We each put in $15 and brought lots of food/ drink etc for Christmas day and headed down to Bondi each on the 25th. We couldnt cook on the beach so we did it on a grass bit right behind the beach. There was sooo much food and we were stuffed..but being on a budget nothing was to be wasted so we cooked it all, put it in the cool bag and took it onto the beach for later. We also managed to get goon onto the beach..even though bag checks were going on. They didnt seem to care!
We all just chilled, sun bathed, went into the sea etc all day. It was a weird way to spend Christmas but it didnt feel like it as it was boiling hot and sunny and nice! When we got back we played some drinking games and I had arranged to skype home when everyone was there. Probably not the best idea as I was v sad to see everyone and wished I was there. I wont ever be away from the fam for Christmas day again!Bondi beach is so nice though, and I got to see some of Bondi rescue being filmed! It was pretty cool!
Next day I woke up all woe because Christmas was all over! And I would have to wait a whole year for that day again..boo! But we just all chilled at the hostel, watched films etc. It was fun. The rest of the time here consisted of the same thing, wake up, food beach etc. Emma left on boxing day which I was sad about! I also had to move from Sydney Railway Square YHA to Sydney Central..it was ok because they weren't far but I didnt like the new hostel. It is a really really nice place, clean, nice rooms and pool upstairs on the roof but it wasn't very social..probably because it was so big. NYE was good, we went to a place called circular quay and waited all day for the fireworks. We made food and again, managed to get our goon in. The bag checks were rubbish. It was so hot and we were there alllll day! The fireworks were amazing though. After NYE it was just a waiting game to leave Sydney, I only had one more night which I was v happy about.
Sydney is just a hotter London. I wasnt that blown away by it and so happy to now be somewhere else. It is hard to meet people as it's so big and the hostels are massive too. I am glad I went to Sydney but wouldnt be bothered if I never went again! I am in Byron Bay now and I LOVE it. It is so much better, small, cute, quirky and sooo sunny! Nimbin is tomorrow..so I will write again in a few days as I am sure I will be in no fit state to update tomorrow!
Big Love!!!!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxx
