Day 36 - Under the sea...
Trincomarlee is very close to pigeon island which is a protected national park reef that is brilliant for snorkelling so we booked a snorkelling trip for this morning! Early morning followed by breakfast and then got fitted for our flippers and mask and we went off in a little motor boat. Nice journey there, eyes peeled for dolphins or whales but didn't see any.
When we got to the island we had 2.5 hours there to snorkel, and you can just snorkel around the whole island and there is reef surrounding, it was some of the best snorkelling I've done. On the one side there were black tipped reef sharks, which were bigger than I had expected and did looks little menacing! We also saw lots of beautiful fish including the big parrot fish, and the whole cast from finding nemo of course, we also saw an octopus which was quite exciting! We also saw a lot of pigeons hence the name of the island!
When we returned to uppaveli we had a quick lunch of a toastie then took our places on the beach to read, sleep, swim and relax. Just as we were about to head back to the hotel, we spotted Fran and Laura (two of the other Warwick students who were staying at galle with us) walking along the beach! We didn't realise they were coming up here at the end as well, so that was a nice surprise! We sat and had a cocktail In Fernando's bar before heading back to shower and change! Back out to the beach for dinner and then to bed!
