We woke early and eagerly headed off knowing today's ride would complete 5 consecutive days of riding and lead into a much needed rest day at Windhoek. It would also draw a close to an 820km stretch. The ride itself was 160k. I felt much better physically than I did the day before. I wondered whether this was because it was my last ride with the guys before returning home. The first 120 k's were OK. Although I was sore and tired I was trying not to think about the strain on my body and enjoy the landscape I was riding. We stopped at the Windhoek international air port for lunch which is 40 k's out of Namibia's capital. The final 40 k was challenging as we had to climb through Windhoek's surrounding mountain ranges. The descent into the Capital however was a memory that won't fade and quite a contrast to the Botswana and Zambia Landscapes. I have read that Namibia itself attracts geologists due to its land formations. Namibia has surprised me with its beauty and it's relative affluence. I am looking forward to getting more of a feel for the culture tomorrow exploring the city. It was a warm day again and with monotonous regularity I consumed about 5l of fluid. My eating and drinking habits have changed remarkably since riding in Africa and I am curious as to how long it will take for my metabolism to return to normal. It was a bittersweet day for me today. My time is nearly up here in Africa. I achieved what I set out to by riding in excess of 2000 km across 3 countries. It will feel strange waving goodbye to the guys as they ride off without me the day after tomorrow. Tonight we had a meal at a local restaurant that was recommended and Shane and I ordered Kudu and Oryx respectively. We thought we should try some of the local fare/game. We are too tired to celebrate milestones and these guys still have to get themselves to Cape Town where their epic journey will come to an end at the closure of this month.
