After a strange breakfast, miso soup, salmon teriyaki, sushi rice, pickled vegetables, sesame greens and a fried egg ..with an old jukebox playing Beatles records in the background at 8.30 in the morning ,picked for me by the manager who stated they were English like me.I find my self bored napping on a bench in the Center of town chain smoking listening to the stone roses , who played a few days ago at the fuji rocks festival in the ski resort a few hours away tried to get last minute tickets no luck pretty feeble attempt due to my lack of Japanese to be honest.( appears I'm the only westerner here) waiting for the bus (only come every 2 hours and i just missed the last one)to take me to one of the local mountains for my 20k easy hike (apparently).still just shorts trainers and t shirt but this time I have prepared with two bottles of water a banana and 20 Marlboro and my dot to dot map.sorted......UPDATE ....arriving at 5000 ft I seem somewhat underprepared as it is pissing down to which the driver gives me his umbrella ,an Englishman climbing a mountain with an umbrella a bit cliche......2 UPDATE after getting slightly lost I find myself with a very wet rock face not wanting to go back I head up 3UPDATE after about an hour of slightly dodgy climbing I'm wet through completely lost and it's getting seriously difficult and very dodgy plus thunder and lightening is getting a lot closer ,,honestly I'm slightly worried going back down the way I came is going to be a lot more dangerous but don't no what else to do there seriously could be another 127 hours moment coming.........ok last update seems a little dramatic now ,but my arse was going a bit .im covered in mud ,a few bruises and wet and carrying a see thru umbrella seems to be greeted with amusement by the passing hikers I'm just glad to be back in the correct place.after a couple deserved Marlborough lights I decide to finish the 20k and the path is a lot easier ......last update ,,out of the mountain and managed to thumb a lift back to town now for a well deserved soak in the hot springs and a big bowl of noodles.
