After 7 o'clock start and a five hour journey I arrived at my rykon ( traditional Japanese guest house).i was greeted by the excited owner an old Japanese man who enquired as my plans in yudanka ,on telling him I had no plans he excitedly pulled out map after map scribbling in red pen all over them I nodded politely slightly confused by the world wind of suggestions ."ok I show you the room then we go "said the friendly Japanese owner .the room was like an apartment first a small corridor then the first paper sliding door then a small reception room with a fridge full of beer then another sliding door leading on to a huge room furnished with takayama mats and a bed on the floor with more sliding doors and a small balcony .after leaving the bags we jumped in the car and the owner drove me up the mountain stopping at a clearing " ok monkeys 2. Km through the forest" after about ten photos of me on the owners camera in which instead of using zoom he just walked really close to me.very bizarre,he was back in the car.when I asked him how to get back he pulled out another map did another quick dot to dot scribbling with a big red pen smiled and of he went.after a quick hike I found the snow monkeys, another David Attenborough moment as I sat with in 10 cm of the monkeys as they bathed and played one even pushed me out of the way to get to the hot springs very cool.I then began the 5k hike back down the mountain in which I got lost due partly to the map so i stopped a Japanese lady who after 10 min of quick Japanese pointed back up the mountain gutted.20 min uphill later I arrived back hot sweaty and hungry . Yet again greeted by the owner I explained I enjoyed the trip and asked about food " no now we go to the onsen ( Japanese public bath) another drive up another mountain and I was sat with lots of naked locals in the hot springs outside overlooking the valley below . However these hot springs are hot 48 degrees straight out the ground , after 25 min I was ready to pass out altitude heat and no rest was a problem so I retreated to the bath house a cold shower then dressed .thankfully this time he arranged to pick me up ,again I enquirer were to eat " no now we go to local karaoke competition" ok so half an hour later I'm sat with about a hundred Japanese locals havin a beer and cheering for the singers(only westerner there) .after about an hour of karaoke I made my goodbyes and went to get some food . Returning to the rykon yet again greeted by the owner " now we go to another bath house" (its like 11 at night by the way)this time I politely explained I was tired."ok no problem breakfast will be brought to your room at 8.30 then I take you to the mountain for a 20 k hike to see the dragon who lives in the mountain lake,..??...only joking!!"..oh ok so can I swim " no to dangerous dragon live there "??so now I'm lying in my paper apartment having a beer and a sleep ready for my 8.30 wake up call by mr myaggi .think he's trying to kill me with kindness .
