Woke up at 7 this morning slightly hungover from the night before after coming home from dinner with a couch surfer from china bumped into a very interesting woman from las Vegas a girl from oz and a British guy ( some interesting conversation took place and some drinks) .so it's 7 in the morning and I'm slightly gutted last day in Japan and stressed going to china ( don't even remember when my flight is never mind were I'm staying) and its raining hard and I have a 20 min walk to the station and an hours train ride(. 4 different trains) .after a lengthy visit to the Japanese post office and soaked( lost the umbrella) I head to naritta , can't find the guest house after about 30 min wandering with a hangover in the rain and some help from google maps I'm there and first thing I do is crash.i wake about 4 and go to buy cigarettes.seems like I'm in some fake Japanese town in America everything is closed and the place is full of Americans very weird .i haven't eaten and the only place open is mc Donald's , any one who knows me knows my contempt for americanising the world and for mc Donald's as the symbol for western consumerism and i hate there food ,but I'm hungry so in I go ,the only thing I recognise amongst the teriyaki burgers is the cheese burger and big mac so I order a cheeseburger and fries.the Japanese love mc Donald's they are carrying out tonnes of food in massive mc Donald's carry bags like you get in an upscale shop (that's a new one) and everything is made to order ( Japanese efficiency).after a few fries and half a cheese burger I'm surrounded by American tourists and yes there videoing themselves in a Japanese mc Donald's excited by the fact they still have fries here.i got up and left my half eaten meal before I was sick.wandering back I search for a Japanese bar yet again all I can find is what can only described as a mix with top gun and cocktail.full on fly boys bar popcorn smell in the air American 80 s music in the jukebox CNN on the tv .sat having a corona( in Japan something wrong with that no Japanese beer) after listening to Americans drone on I can't stand no more this ain't the Japan I came to see so I get up to leave.as I'm stood in the doorway having a cigarette I'm approached By two American guys who inquire what I'm doing .next thing I no I'm back in the bar drinks on them whiskeys( hate whiskey but it's expensive s*** and free) and coronas all around .turns out there both pilots one ex hardcore us marine .they turn out to be pretty decent dudes and a good time is had some of the old guys flew in Vietnam and they all seemed to be very interested in my travels .the ex marine is from alaska tells me all about it and the places he's been shows me picks we discuss china and climbing mt fuji ( he lived in hong kong so has lots of info ) and more shots are downed with lots of high fives given and us marine semper fis (definitely want to go to Alaska).so now I find myself leaving the bar after having a good time and enjoying my bit of the west and Americans two .and feel bad about slating the America in this blog.after some interesting discussions about history's and wars fought maybe I got America wrong they seemed pretty decent( in fact every american i have met in japan,morocco,africa have been cool)So no I don't hate america or Americans just mc Donald's!!!!
