Today I got up up very early, especially since my room-mate set the alarm at 3:30 (Besides this, he woke up at 1:00, to check his bag and a discussion on Indian curries)
After a quick wash we set out to the fish market and it really was a spectacular sight. The tuna auction was very interesting! Besides this I saw a lot of fish and especially Fugo (which was kept alive) was interesting. This is the type of fish that can be deadly poisonous, and is only allowed to be prepared by specially trained sushi-chefs. Nevertheless it still occurs that people accidentally die after eating a wrongly prepared fish....
After wandering around for some time it not only becomes clear that this indeed is a very busy place, but also that it can be quite dangerous for tourists walking around since it is quite hectic and everybody is really working very hard. Not such a big surprise that the access to this market will probably be prohibited before the end of the year.
After returning to the hotel we packed our stuff and headed to the train station. Destination: Takayama, a lovely city located in the Japanese Alps.
After a huge delay (especially since Japan has the most punctual rail-way system in the world), due to a lightning-strike. Eventually we arrived at 17:00 in Takayama, so no more free afternoon.
After dropping off our stuff in the hotel we directly went to the restaurant to try a local delicacy: Hiba-beef roasted on a dried magnolia leaf
I was really good!
After this and a short exploration walk around the town everybody was really tired, so we went to bed relatively early to prepare for the city-tour by bike tomorrow!
